January 12th, 2011 at 01:48 am

Cable $648
Internet $518
Personal Loan $1,536 (4yrs left)
Auto Loan(5yrs left)
Car Insurance $976
Rent $1,048
Cell Phone $1,370
Electricity $1,200
Gas $683

I'm just starting to sit down and tally up my annual expenses. This is a start for me to really see where my money is going and where I really should cut back. My annual salary is about $43k and up until the end of last year I haven't had a clue where my money has been going. I have decided this year to only purchase items that I NEED by setting aside my WANTS and MUST HAVES. LOL I currently have about $1,500 in credit card debt and anothe $1,500 in medical bills. I should have the 3k paid off on all of my debts around mid year if not before depending on my tax refund. I am very open to any suggestions/tips that anyone has on how I can cut back on expenses.

Is the rent annual too? Less than $100 per month?

I would cut out cable. Most television shows can be seen on the websites of those stations these days and with a very simple cable you can hook up your computer to most modern TV's if you want to watch on a larger screen. ABC, Fox, NBC, CW, CBS, TNT, and SyFy are just many of several that air their most popular shows for free online. You might have to wait a day or two, or in some cases a week before seeing a new episode, but that's not a big deal if it is free. Not to mention that any show that isn't cancelled right away comes out on DVD within the year of airing and a $10 a month neflix subscription to get them would be $120 a year as opposed to $648 for cable. We've been cable free for years now.

Welcome! It doesn't seem like your fixed expenses above are what's doing you in Wink

I would definitely get rid off cable and cut down cell phone bill.

    Your rent is really good.

Cable is expendable. I would also call some other insurance companies and see if you can get a better rate for similar coverage. I have done that and it can lead to some significant savings. Good luck!
